Shoulder
The shoulder is a complex joint, designed to be in constant motion, and involved in almost all we do. It is the most mobile joint in the body, capable of incredible range of motion. The glenohumeral joint is a shallow ball in socket joint, more similar to a golf ball on a tee in shape, which allows it to achieve range of motion in most directions. For as much as the shoulder is capable of doing, it has minimal bony connection via the collarbone (acromion) to the skeleton. It is primarily connected to the rest of the body with muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues.
Common injuries to the shoulder include rotator cuff tears, tendinitis/bursitis, shoulder impingement, dislocations (instability), and frozen shoulder. These injuries can be debilitating to your normal daily life. Simple things like picking up a fork to eat, put on a shirt, or shaking someone's hand can become increasingly difficult or painful. Some injuries will require surgery to repair. Physical Therapy has been proven to be a very beneficial, conservative treatment to shoulder injuries by addressing healing, pain management, stability, and strengthening.
At For Life Therapy, we are experts at diagnosing and treating the complex issues in the shoulder. Did you know that the shoulder is our favorite joint?!
